Provincial Draft-Legal Championships
On Saturday August 1st, Mooney’s Bay Park in Ottawa held Triathlon Ontario’s Provincial Draft-Legal Championships.
The juniors got the help of the U23 competitors who started the race together.
Danae had a good swim and was able to form with an U23 athlete and a few competitors on the bike to try to chase down about a 45 second lead ahead of her. The fast bike reduced the lead by half the time with Danae biking with the fastest pace of her race! On the run Danae was able to open a gap over the rest of the chase pack and finish 2nd overall in the Provincial Championship! What an accomplishment to carry forward into a couple more National competitions!
Emilie was smart benefiting from the draft of an U23 athlete exiting together through the swim, and pushing on the bike to the middle of the pack. As one of the youngest athletes in her age group, Emilie raced well to 7th place! Emilie has also been a competitor is the Provincial races so well that she is currently 3rd in this summers Provincial Junior rankings!
TriMemphre Triathlon de Magog
Last weekend, Magog, Quebec played host to the Junior-Elite Canadian Championships.
Danae raced well. She was aggressive in the swim to come out just behind the first group, tried to keep pushing on the technical bike course, and raced to the line on the run narrowly beating competitors. Danae was 13th overall at the national championship with a time of 1:09!
Magog also hosted an open sprint triathlon which tempted Pat and Ross into the competition. Pat, with some racing experience this year in Sydenham, picked up his pace after the swim through the event and finished in 1:26 for a great 5th place in his age group. Ross returned to racing this year with good health and building training as he felt ready for the sprint triathlon at Magog. He had a good swim and worked consistently for the rest of the race to finish 3rd in his age group, with a time of 1:39.
Sydenham Triathlon 2015
There are a lot of winners in our IronStride group and the Sydenham Triathlon proved that point in more ways than one. The close-to-home event had good IronStride participation, joined together with familiar locals for the many different events.
Lianne was consistently fast with some great splits to finish 3rd overall as the 1st female in 1:07! Amazing! More great placing as Pat finished 2nd in his age group and 9th overall in 1:14! Chelsea moved well to be the 2nd overall woman in the sprint event finishing right there with Pat. The sprint event had many IronStriders racing and working with each other as the black, red, and white shined with PB’s and podiums.
Even the try-a-tri event had IronStride participation as a few from our Intro to Triathlon group put their skills to work for their first event! Dennis made it through the water well and controlled his effort to complete his first tri 4th in his age group.
It was great to watch the local event from the T.I. Cycle service tent with so many friendly faces. Good work everyone!
