Hosted by St. Thomas University, this year’s Championships were blessed with perfect weather and a challenging course in Odell Park in downtown Fredericton.

Richelle Moore achieved All-Canadian CCAA All-Star status with her 7th place overall finish in the Women’s race. Richelle also received a gold medal as a member of 1st place Team Ontario in the Conference competition (she was the 3rd OCAA runner to cross the finish line).

The Men’s team had a great race as well, maintaining their 4th place position among Ontario teams, and retaining their national ranking of 10th in the country. The Men’s team consisted of Lucas Nutbrown, Julian Rhebergen, Ben Campbell, Michael Marshall, Ryan Van Dyl and Graham Spaull.

]]>Glenda Clapham Closes Out Racing Season In Stylejohn@ironstride.comNone2010-11-21T06:12:07-05:00http://www.ironstride.com/index.html#unique-entry-id-86http://www.ironstride.com/index.html#unique-entry-id-86Having qualified in Syracuse on September 19th, Glenda Clapham has topped off an amazing racing season by competing in the 2010 Ironman 70.3 World Championships. Held in Clearwater Florida on November 14th, Glenda finished on a high note and with a big smile on her face in a time of 5:41:26. The wave start swim was stress-free and her bike segment was awesome - 34kph average speed with no drafting!

Glenda’s season of splendour started with a division gold at the Limestone Tri on May 16th, followed by a bronze in her division at Guelph Lake I on June 20th, a 4th in her division at Ironman Lake Placid on July 25th, and then her World’s qualifying performance (silver in her division) at the Syracuse Ironman 70.3.

This time it was with a result of 1:17:31 to finish just 102 seconds behind the eventual winner (Barry Biner) at the Angus Glen Half Marathon held in Markham ON on November 7th. Zab led the race for the first 7km until Biner, who is half Randy’s age and was being paced by a non-registered runner, overtook him.

]]>2010 Hamilton Marathonjohn@ironstride.comNone2010-11-11T08:25:07-05:00http://www.ironstride.com/index.html#unique-entry-id-83http://www.ironstride.com/index.html#unique-entry-id-83IronStriders Darlene Howe and Monica LaBarge share many things in common - both are talented athletes, both are high-level Ironman competitors, and both ended their 2010 racing season on a high note by nailing sub-3:30s at the Run2Hope Marathon held in Hamilton ON on November 7th.

Both worked very hard to attain these impressive results - but the race wasn’t void of complications. Darlene and Monica were part of a small group of runners who had to stop and wait for several minutes for a train to pass at the 29km mark of the course. The official results will be adjusted to account for this peculiar (not to mention frustrating) event.

Monica’s time was a PB of 3:29:49, while Darlene finished with a PB of 3:29:26 (both times train adjusted!).

Congratulations to both!

]]>October Race Resultsjohn@ironstride.comNone2010-10-11T07:17:37-04:00http://www.ironstride.com/index.html#unique-entry-id-79http://www.ironstride.com/index.html#unique-entry-id-79October 24th - Rattle Me Bones 5K (Ottawa ON) - Coach Randy Zabukovec seems to be improving with age, taking 27 seconds off his time for this same race from last year! Coach Zab finished 3rd overall with a time of 16:58, just 0.8 seconds behind a much younger 2nd place finisher - and only 6 seconds behind the equally young winner. Much older Coach John Reid, on the other hand, had a less happy day - adding 51 seconds to his last year's time - finishing in 22:33.

Two other IronStride athletes also competed in the Rattle Me Bones with great results - Mike and Alison MacDonald. Mike finished 13th overall with a 17:58, and Alison took bronze in her age division with a 20:57.

October 17th - Toronto Marathon (Toronto ON) - Chris Lattimore not only qualified for Boston at this year's Toronto Marathon with a time of 3:58 - she also finished 3rd out of 52 in her division.

October 10th - Victoria Marathon (Victoria BC) - former Kingston athlete Colin Ward, currently living in Vancouver and being coached by Randy, ran a BQ in Victoria with a time of 2:54. Colin was 6th out of 157 in his age division (30-34) and 48th overall out of a field of over 2600.

October 3rd - Prince Edward County Marathon (Picton ON) - Dion Brash capped off his great first season of competitive racing by finishing the windy PEC Marathon in a time of 3:52. This was Dion’s first-ever marathon.

October 2nd - Run for the Toad (Paris ON) - Blue Marlins/IronStride swim coach Ken Anderson took on the 25km event at the gruelling Run for the Toad trail race - finishing just under his goal time with a 2:29:30.
